FRASIER’S FRIDAY FACT
Volume XXXVII
11/10/2017
Hello Everyone, and Happy Friday!
I welcome you all back on this splendid Friday to Frasier's Friday Fact. I am sure you all know by now, but it is worth noting our mantra: we gather here to cherish knowledge and continually build our readily available mental database of useless information to use at parties.
Although it is only November 10th, today we observe Veterans Day, with many offices closed for the holiday. Personally, I enjoy a day off whenever it happens to fall, but three day weekends are exceptionally nice. You know who else enjoys three day weekends? The travel industry.
It turns out that the travel industry likes to promote traveling on long weekends - who knew! A few lobbying efforts later, we have the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed in 1968 by Congress. The Act, which took effect in 1971, moved some federal holidays to Mondays, and created a few new Monday holidays as well. Veterans Day, traditionally celebrated on November 11th (the date of the end of World War I), was one of the holidays that was moved. For a time, Veterans Day was celebrated on the fourth Monday in October.
This didn't last long, however, and Congress again acted in 1975 to move Veterans Day back to its original date, effective in 1978.
Enjoy your day, my friends, and if you see a veteran, thank them.
