FRASIER’S FRIDAY FACT
Volume CXXVII
3/6/2020
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to Frasier's Friday Fact, where we cherish knowledge and continually build our mental database of useless information to use at parties.
One of my weak spots is my sweet tooth - it's a weakness I can admit, and I try my best to manage. So, you may be able to imagine my reaction when I learned that today is National Oreo Day!
I was doing a bit of research, of course, and the first thing I found surprising is that Oreos are really old. I assumed they were invented in the last 60 years or so... but the Oreo was actually invented in 1912!
The second interesting thing is that the Oreo is actually a copycat cookie. The first creme-filled cookie sandwich is called the Hydrox, which hit stores four years earlier in 1908. The Hydrox has always battled the Oreo for cookie supremacy, partially because of the interesting name choice - it sounds a bit chemical. However, there are several Hydrox fans out there who swear Hydrox blows Oreo out of the water (if you're reading this, let me know). After a few hiatuses, the Hydrox cookie is now back - meaning I will have to try one (or a box) and report back to all of you here at FFF.
You'll have to wait until my Lenten cookie hiatus ends, though.
Stay snacking, my friends.
